QUFA Executive Committee elections are fast approaching, and it looks like these will be the most lively races in a long time! QCAA is heartened by the energy with which QUFA members are taking up union work. Robust member mobilization is the very foundation of pushing back against austerity and other attacks on the university.

Today, we are sharing a list of the candidates we endorse for their strong position on labour, union democracy, and equity:

  • Treasurer: Dan Cohen
  • Secretary: Samantha King
  • Grievance Chair: Sailaja Krishnamurti
  • Continuing Adjunct Representative: Ayça Tomaç
  • Equity Representative: Norma Möllers
  • Librarian and Archivist Representative: Gillian Akenson
  • Member-at-Large: Shobhana Xavier

Why these candidates? In recent years, it has become clear that the past practice of “working with the administration” has lost its effectiveness. We appreciate the work of the current QUFA Executive. At the same time, we believe the intensifying austerity and governance crisis requires more assertive and dynamic leadership in QUFA’s dealings with the administration. In our view, these candidates bring that capacity and experience, and for these reasons, they have our vote.

You can find the candidate statements here.

The Spring General Meeting will take place on Friday, April 24 at 1:00 pm on Zoom. To register, email Elizabeth Polnicky.
