On Friday, December 1st we hosted a 2-hour virtual teach-in on the impact of budget cuts and austerity at Queen’s. Our goal was to raise awareness of the cuts amongst staff, faculty, and students. Speakers addressed a new report, Shock Doctrine at Queen’s: Budget Cuts and Austerity, which challenges the speed and scale with which the cuts are being enforced. They also discussed austerity within the context of chronic provincial underfunding. Speakers included representatives from PSAC 901, USW 2010, QUFA’s Adjunct Advocacy Committee, and more.

Thank you to all who attended! A special thanks to Queen’s Campus Community Radio station, CFRC, for broadcasting the event and helping with our Zoom room spillover. Special thanks, too, to Queen’s Students vs Budget Cuts and all the other groups who organized watch parties.
Our campus has rarely witnessed such solidarity across faculty, staff, students, and post docs. Let’s keep building!
We invite you to watch the video recording of the first two presentations (i.e. ‘the context’) below (30 min) and listen to the the CFRC archived audio stream of the full event.
