A reminder for all of those within the Faculty of Arts and Science that there are two important (and rare) opportunities to provide feedback about the direction of FAS due in the next two days:

New Arts and Science Dean: The Principal has asked for feedback for the advisory committee for the new FAS Dean by Thursday, June 19th via anonymous survey. Given the limited representation of faculty, students, and staffs on the committee, this may be the only opportunity to provide input on the search priorities. You can find the details and link to the survey here: https://www.queensu.ca/gazette/stories/committee-formed-faculty-arts-and-science-dean-search

Draft Report to the Principal from the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences Bicentennial Advisory Committee: As part of his Bicentennial Vision process, the Principal appointed an advisory group on the future of the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. The group was formed in response to pushback against the negative framing of the future of these fields in the Principal’s initial discussion letter (see QCAA blog post here).

That committee has now released a draft report and given faculty, students, and staff only nine days to read it and respond. The short turnaround and timing are far from ideal, but the report outlines strategies for the future of these areas and deserves careful attention. You can find the survey link to provide feedback by searching for an email from deanartsci@queensu.ca titled ‘Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences Draft Bicentennial Vision Feedback’ in your mailbox.
